80s Flashback - Week #4

This week was really crazy/hectic/exciting all because of Friday. Friday was my birthday!! :D The theme for my birthday was 80s, so naturally I decided to make up an 80s theme design. The idea I actually got from a post on Pinterest - 80s theme nails - and I loved it! So I tried it out in my own way.

I tried to think of bright colours to make the look more authentic. This is what I got.

These are all the products I used. I decided to give myself a mini manicure for my birthday.

First I used an exfoliating sugar scrub. I got this Pomegranate Mangosteen by Originals from the beauty supply store. I really do like the way my hands feel so soft after I use this scrub.

Second I applied two coats of the various colours of nail polish I wanted to use. For this design I decided to use a different colour on each nail, to make the colours stand out more.

Nail colours: Nails pro - Like Butta, Sephora by O.P.I - Fiercely Fabulous & Access 24/7, Avon - Blue Escape, and China Glaze - Purple Panic

Third I used tape to make a funky design on my nails. I made a burst coming from the middle of my finger going outwards. Make sure the tape is on tight and there are no air bubbles. Also, make sure the nail polish is COMPLETELY DRY before completing this step. The polish will come off when it's time to remove the tape.

Once there are no air bubbles in the tape, you can apply the darker colour of polish, in this case I chose black (Sephora by O.P.I - Where's the Tire Jack?), as that was what was used in the example I was using for inspiration. Although any dark colour would work well in this case if you're not particular to black.

When the dark top polish was completely dry, I slowly removed the tape as to not ruin the design. Then I added a top coat and the look is complete! (Top Coat used: Seche Vite)

And there you have it! 80s style nails, simple yet just they way they should be. Now to put on those tights, wear those bright colours and poof up that hair!

Next week we'll see what comes up. I started a new job, so maybe I'll do a professional look. Who knows.

Enjoy!

St. Patrick's Day - Week # 3

Ok, so I know this blog is a few days late, but it's been hard trying to figure time to get on here. The design I did for the past week was a tribute to the holiday that passed over the weekend. St. Patrick's Day. An Irish holiday, full of drinks and wearing green. So let's see what I came up with.

I decided to use greens and golds as my main colours as those are the main colours to represent the holiday. I used clovers as my design, detailed in a light gold. I also decided to make a rainbow leading into a pot of gold, thought it was a cute idea to represent St. Patrick's Day.

Nail colour: Nails pro - Emerald City  & Sephora by O.P.I - Charge It.
Coloured accents: Stripe Rite (They don't have the colour names on the bottles) & Black nail marker
Top coat: Seche Vite

Next week I've got a really good idea, and will try to make it a tutorial blog instead of what I've been doing.

Enjoy!

Ninja Turtles - Week #2

This week has been a little hectic. With going to workshops for my career, and home life. So with the help of my boyfriend, we picked a colour and thought up a theme. NINJA TURTLES! And why not? I mean it was one of my favourite series growing up, and is always a classic in my mind. So I went with it.

The products I used were

Nail colour: Nails Inc. Magnetic polish - Whitehall  & Sephora by O.P.I - Break a leg warmer (the mini bottle in the photo)
Coloured accents: Stripe Rite (They don't have the colour names on the bottles) & Sephora by O.P.I - Charge It & Black nail marker
Top coat: Seche Vite

I decided to make one nail a different colour than the rest, to kind of represent the night when the turtles would wander the streets of new york city. Also adding a nighttime skyline helped with this. A turtle shell, and the masked eyes are to complete the look of a ninja turtle. I also used some of the natural effect that the magnetic nail polish can have. Another good reason to like this base colour.

The next coming weeks are no question to what I have in mind. And I'm quite excited to work on those looks.

Enjoy!
